A Bit About Me

I started offering freelance support in 2022 when I noticed the need for affordable and approachable administrative and creative support. So often the message we either receive from unhelpful sources or from ourselves is that we should be able to do it all. There’s an insidious expectation that it shouldn’t be that hard and that if you are finding elements of your work difficult to manage that it is a personal fault. Well, let me shout from my wee soapbox that couldn’t be further from the truth! Running a small business in todays climate is often unforgiving and when you are your own boss it can be even harder to remember to be gentle with yourself. Maybe you are an artist or writer who needs help updating your website or sending out a regular newsletter.

Avoid falling into the quicksand of should and get back to the pursuits that bring you joy.

I leverage my 10+ years as a writer (dual BA in Medieval Literature and History, MLitt in Creative Writing, and DFA in Creative Writing), my own experiences as a creative in the publishing world, working alongside small businesses, and my 10+ years as a researcher to help work the problem not the person and create kinder solutions and sustainable systems.

There are ways to remove obstacles.

My Values

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN WORKING WITH ME:

When I began thinking of how I wanted to offer support that would feel meaningful and well crafted there were four core values I kept returning to again and again. I found when I was starting out in my writing and professional career that so much of the current climate is set towards an incredibly fast pace that demands participants to try to force themselves into labels/roles/spaces that don’t always meet their needs. This relentless pace left me drained with little to no energy for my own creative practice and I realised that I could be part of the shift towards slow, intentional support offered in a kind, inclusive, and compassionate environment.

  1. Grounded - I will always look to build my clients up into the best version of themselves, and I can achieve this by rooting any editorial work in tangible feedback rooted within the work. With makers and artists, I can help consolidate thoughts and collections into succinct artists statements or profile websites. And for small businesses I can relieve some of the daily pressure by assisting with social media posts, website updates, newsletters, or general marketing writing.

  2. Investment - When a client chooses to invest in my services, I invest in them. I make it my job to understand the goals they have, and their future wants/dreams and do what I can to help them reach those milestones.

  3. Personal - I enjoy getting to know a client and their craft, whether that is a novel, a collection, or their small business. I work hard to understand the motivations behind goals or intentions behind their investment and pride myself on compassionate and open communication.

  4. Inclusive- There is no one path, everyone has their own. I feel deeply that any client should feel calm and comfortable when working with me. While I may not be the person to go to if you want to go viral or rapidly grow, I am the person to go to if you want to know that at all times I am prioritising my clients and their vision.
